When a bear drags a dead body onto an opera star's private beach, she is drawn into a murder investigation that will challenge her faith in the Montana community she once called home.
Rising international opera star Diana Gallant retreats to her family's remote Montana lake cabin to grieve the unexpected death of her beloved sister. Hoping to find solace in the wilderness of her childhood, she instead finds herself caught up in a murder investigation led by Beck Skye, a popular sheriff's deputy who has no intention of recruiting an opera singer to help solve a crime. But with the sheriff's department stretched thin by wildfires, Beck reluctantly accepts Diana's help.
As Diana becomes part of Fireweed's lively circle of friends, neighbors, and eccentrics, she discovers a place both familiar and welcoming. But beneath the warmth and humor lie dangerous secrets: a clandestine drug trade, tensions over development and tribal sovereignty, and old resentments that threaten to tear the community apart.
Against a landscape of austere beauty, unpredictable wildfire seasons, and enduring wilderness, Diana must confront the darker side of the place she loves.
For readers who love the warmth and memorable characters of Louise Penny's Three Pines mysteries and the quirky Montana community and dark humor of Jamie Harrison's The River View, Death in Fireweed offers an atmospheric, character-driven mystery where the landscape is as compelling as the people.
